Team Internships
The Malaysian Team Internships were amongst our earliest programs organized for the first time in Kuala Lumpur in 2011. The flagship “sprint” internship has now been run in 5 locations in 3 countries.
The 2-week (flexible) program is designed to provide students with real project experience of working in cross-disciplinary taskforces in an international professional setting. These internships often appeal to those students who have little travel experience and are uncertain of undertaking a longer internship.
In teams of 4 (for ease of transport in ride-share), students work as a small consulting team on projects sourced by The Global Student. Students are welcomed into the companies and are included in social activities and may also get to practice their newly acquired networking skills through attendance at networking functions with the Malaysian Australian Business Council (MABC)

Students are placed in a range of companies from MNCs to SMEs to NGOs, to undertake various projects including feasibility studies, marketing analysis and strategies, business analysis, market entry strategies, and development of business plans.
Local companies enjoy this program with many having taken multiple groups, as they view this as an opportunity to get a fresh set of eyes on their business or get started on a larger project they haven’t had the time or resources to look at.

We source projects from our extensive list of host companies, and the university Academic Program Coordinator (APC) chooses those that best meet the requirements of the diverse group of students who have already been confirmed into the program. The APC determines the composition of the groups based on the project requirements.
We provide pre-departure and orientation programs to introduce both the Malaysian and business culture and prepare the students for their internship, which provides insight into differences in workplace etiquette and acceptable behaviours.

Students are usually accompanied by the Academic Program Coordinator who meets with the groups in the evenings to keep them on track and follow up with hosts where there may be any issues.
On the final two days, each group presents their project to the host company, the APC, and a TGS representative, with the final written report completed for assessment within two weeks of returning home.
